You can stop housing discrimination

While apartments sit empty, Black and brown renters are told nothing is available, often with a smile and a handshake. People who use wheelchairs are denied simple accommodations like a parking space near their door or a curb cut. Families are told they have "too many children" for the home that fits their needs. Women face sexual harassment from landlords who hold power over where they live.

This is housing discrimination, and it's illegal. Since 1992, the Fair Housing Center of Southeast & Mid Michigan has worked to end discrimination in housing and public accommodations and to build accessible, integrated communities. We investigate complaints, conduct undercover testing, advocate for people seeking help, and refer cases to attorneys when the law has been broken.

What Your Support Makes Possible

• $25 covers one month of phone relay and language translation services
• $50 prints and distributes 100 fair housing brochures across our service area
• $100 reimburses one tester's mileage to and from test sites
• $250 covers a new complaint intake, the starting point for every case
• $1,000 funds the advocacy that gets a wheelchair user their own accessible parking spot
• $2,000 allows us to conduct one undercover paired test
